My Boss
In my life, I had only one boss. I met him when I was 20. It is hard to describe him now. But his image still impresses me deeply.
What impresses me was (is) his quick mind. I am sure (that) he was not well educated. But he seemed to be able to handle all difficulties in a flash. I remember one special day. In the morning, it was raining. Soon the sun came out. To construction workers, the change of weather was nothing. And 3 of us kept working on the site.
Because of the rain, the slope near our construction site suddenly collapsed. I was lucky and escaped from the dangerous slope, but the other two workers were hit by a boulder. Blood covered their faces. And I was frightened to death.
Then my boss came. He immediately calmed me down, bringing me back to reality. Then he drove a bulldozer and helped the workers out. Within five minutes, he did two things perfectly. And because he acted promptly, the two workers' lives were saved even though they remained unconscious when they were sent to the hospital. By that time, I was just sitting beside the road and taking deep breath. I wanted to cry, blaming myself for my uselessness. I was young, but why couldn't I do things better and save my colleagues? I asked. Then I looked at my boss.
Suddenly a light came from his eyes. They seemed to be saying: "Kid, don't blame yourself. You have already done your best. Look at the sky. Isn't it beautiful!" I am not sure whether my boss had said such things to me. But his eyes comforted me, making me feel that I was not alone in the world and that there were always roads ahead.
Since then, I became more confident and was never afraid of any difficulties.
I have nightmares sometimes when I think of that terrible accident. But I am not alone anymore because I once had a quiet but wonderful boss. Without him, my life may totally be different now.
