because of/because
受到母語的影響，香港學生用英文說明理由時，很容易混淆 because of 和 because 的用法。在中文，這兩個字都解作「因為」。但是語法上，「因為」後面接「句子」sentence structure 或「名詞片語」noun phrase，中文都是可以的。例如：
（一）因為你打電話說要來（句子結構），我才把約會取消了。
（二）因為錢（名詞片語），某某犧牲色相。
然而，在英文的就不成了。其公式如下：
(a) because of + 名詞片語
Kenneth married Susan because of her money.
(b) owing to + 名詞片語
Owing to the bad weather, we put off the picnic.
(c) due to + 名詞片語
The accident was due to carelessness.
(d) because + 句子結構
I decided to go because the weather was clear.
(e) since + 句子結構
They stopped the car since there was an accident.
